Dinner tasted like something the cat dragged in, not something I willingly paid for. They did refund it, I must admit. What I really couldn't stand, though, was the noise from upstairs. Sounded like a herd of elephants tap-dancing all night long. I think they must have forgotten about proper soundproofing when they built this place. It seriously affected my ability to sleep soundly.

the staff were very cute. they were polite. the location is within beautiful grounds. i also found nice touches in the room, including treats and a bed for the dog.

I noticed that the afternoon tea was a bit expensive. Although, it was tasty.

The hotel has a fantastic location within beautiful grounds. Though, it is a bit far from the center. the hotel also has an outside seating area . wivenhoe is a lovely village nearby.

Decent Stay with Some Issues

poor soundproofingcold scrambled eggs

I was a bit disappointed with a few things. The soundproofing in the rooms is not great. I could hear doors slamming and general noise from other guests late at night. The breakfast buffet was also lacking. The scrambled eggs were cold and some items were frequently empty and not refilled promptly (a real let down). These issues detracted from what could have been a much better experience (I really think these things should be better).

the dining experience was excellent. the onsite restaurant had a well-chosen menu. the breakfast was also perfect. the room was quite large and very comfortable.

the window only opened a small amount, roughly six inches. this restricted fresh air circulation. also, the room lacked air conditioning, so it became quite warm.
