Excellent Stay in Historic Setting
spiral staircase log burner short walks village details
the blackdene cottage offered accommodation across two levels. a spiral staircase led to the bed and bath. downstairs, a log burner provided warmth. thoughtful, helpful details were provided of short walks from the village.
sunday lunch was fully booked upon arrival, however, the place remained mostly empty for almost an hour, but there were no alternative food options, only a portion of chips.

Dinner in the restaurant was excellent, with recommendations from the friendly dining room team, i found breakfast to be lovely the next morning. The menu offered an interesting selection of dishes.

The team. They were able to completely switch off. One of the members of staff dropped us off at Hadrian's wall for an explore and booked us in for a nature walk around the area, I appreciated it very much.

drying room local beer
the hotel provided a drying room perfect for wet gear and offered wellies from the boot room. i found the local beer at the bar a real treat with its distinct flavor.

super clean room helpful staff building character small portion long wait slow service
we stayed for a couple of nights. our room, a standard double room, was super clean upon arrival. the building has a lot of character. the staff were quite helpful.
the food portions felt a bit small (especially at dinner). i asked for pastries at breakfast, but the wait was quite long. also, the drink service felt slow on occasion.

charming stay
historic village original features evening stars large fireplace
the hotel is in a village steeped in history. i found many original features well-preserved. the gardens allowed me to see stars by the fire pit in the evening. the restaurant has a very old and large fireplace (something i really enjoyed).
breakfast was just mediocre, and i was given virtually raw bacon once.

the room included binoculars for stargazing and homemade fudge. the bed had very fluffy pillows. i was able to call or whatsapp the team for requests.
