a decent stay, but with some issues

friendly staff fantastic view reception desk dated bathroom

The staff seemed very friendly and helpful, i thought. my room was so lovely with fantastic views of the valley, which i really enjoyed. the bathroom had pure luxury and it was warm with loads of hot water. It was really nice to relax after a day exploring.

I found the interior lovely and classy downstairs, though i would have liked to see an obvious reception desk, not just a table in the hall. it felt a bit confusing upon arrival!

superior double room large bed scented products missing reception desk dated bathroom limited beer selection

the room was a superior double room. it featured new decorations and felt warm. the bed was large, and i found it comfortable for sleeping. the bathroom had nice, scented products from wales.

there was no obvious reception desk. i think there should be an actual desk instead of a table. i noted no draft beers at the bar, just small bottles.

The room was decorated nicely, with comfortable beds and an excellent bathroom.

My dinner was lukewarm and seemed like it sat around for a while. The breakfast was no better than budget hotel quality (I honestly expected more). The hotel added a 10% 'service charge' to my wine and bar drinks without any prior notice.

Charming stay in wales

gorgeous decor attentive staff large tv walking opportunity

The hotel features gorgeous decor in communal rooms (i could spend hours there). The staff proved attentive and knowledgeable about the surrounding areas. My room included a large smart TV with super fast Wi-Fi. The grounds offer walking opportunities and fine views of the gardens.

The fire doors in the corridor are awkward, banging against the walls, which could be disruptive.

The hotel features lounges with roaring fires. I could imagine snowy winters here. The grounds boast views, gardens, and walking opportunities who enjoy exploring the outdoors (and i do!).

Staff members were professional and friendly. I seemed like royalty. The manager, christie, discussed ongoing bedroom and sitting room refurbishments. This sounds very exciting, and i anticipate revisiting to see the improvements.

some issues impacted my stay

cold first course oversalted food

i was expecting a really good experience. sadly, dinner was not good. the first course was cold and the rest of the food was too salty. the service was also very slow, though there were few people at the restaurant. it all reminded me of a major letdown.

The bedrooms featured great appointments! and also proved comfortable. The drawing room offered comfy leather settees near a log fire. I found additional cozy rooms suitable for reading. I also appreciated the amazing views extending over the river toward the hills. The new bar area was fine with professional staff that helped make the perfect cocktail.

I did notice the shower cubicle in the dated bathroom wasn't designed well. The shower splashed onto the floor.
